Below, please find our offerings for our Winter Trimester Enrichment at the Lower School (Jefferson St), classes will start the week of January 17th and end March 17th.  

 

Please note enrichment classes start at 3pm and end at 4pm.
No enrichment class on Monday 1/16/17 and 2/20/17.
Registration will be held ONLINE on a first come, first serve basis.
Online Registration for classes will open at 8pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2016

                    An email reminder will be sent out on Monday afternoon, 12/19/16.

 

  • If you do not have internet access or a credit card, please contact Margarita Garcia (mgarcia@holahoboken.org ) before online registration opens.
  • Payments are due at time of registration.
  • Limited financial aid will be available for those who qualify for free or reduced lunch. If possible, please register online and pay the full amount. You will be refunded the financial aid amount immediately after approval. Other arrangements can also be made by contacting Margarita.
  • Please be careful when registering. If you need to cancel a class, you must cancel on or before 12/21/16. You will be refunded the amount of the class less a $25 administrative fee for each class. No refunds or credits will be issued on or after 12/21/16

 

Important Information:

  • If you have an outstanding balance with school (aftercare, enrichment, camp, or lunch account) is past due, your child will NOT be able to participate in enrichment classes. Please settle your account ASAP (contact Marta Pizarro at  mpizarro@holahoboken.org)
  • Please confirm with your child’s teacher if they are required to take tutoring before you registered for Enrichment.
  • All Enrichment class times are from 3:00pm-4:00pm; please pick up your child (ren) promptly at that time. Children remaining at school 5 minutes after enrichment dismissal will be enrolled in aftercare and charged a fee of a $1 per minute (payable at the time of pick-up via active, check, or credit card).
  • Pick-up for Cooking will be held at The Little Grocery, 214 Jefferson St. at 4pm (SHARP).
  • Pick-up for Basketball Clinic will be held at Multi Service Center, 124 Grand St.  at 4pm (SHARP).
  • Pick-up for Susan’s Fit kids Class will be held at Susan T Fitness, 207 Jefferson St.  at 4pm (SHARP).
  • Students enrolled in aftercare will be escorted back to HoLa by an aftercare instructor.
  • If your child should require a snack, please pack one from home.
  • Make-up classes will be held the week of March 19th-24th (if needed).
  • There will be no enrichment classes due to scheduled  school closings  on 1/16/17  & 2/20/17
  • Only classes scheduled on Mondays will end on Monday 3/27/17, all other enrichment classes end on 3/17/17.

Enrichment Schedule & Class Description for Elementary School-123 Jefferson St

Basketball Clinic: Grades K-2nd 3-4pm –– Coach D’Agostino ($125), 18 students, OFFSITE-Multi Center,
HoLa dad and the fifth grade basketball coach D’Agostino and Sr. Akosah will improve your child’s motor skills while playing basketball! Students will work on agility, speed, endurance, strength while practicing basketball. There will be no competitive games in this class, JUST FUNStudents will be escorted to Basketball Clinic at dismissal by an aftercare instructor. Parents/Caretakers are responsible for picking up students at the Multi Center (located at 124 Grand St) at 4pm Sharp. Only students registered for HoLa aftercare will be escorted back to school after the enrichment class. Students will be escorted to Sports Clinic at dismissal by an aftercare instructor. Learn lANGUAge hoboken-Chinese (Mandarin) class: Grades 1st-2nd– 3-4pm –($235), 10 students
Learn Language Hoboken’s Enrichment Program is designed to teach language and culture focusing on the development of auditory and verbal skills in a fun, fast-paced environment by professional, native instructors.  Our teachers have been carefully selected for their ability to work with children.  LLH’s teaching methods focus on utilizing art, culture, music, games and other language-relevant learning activities.  Lessons are developed to promote conversation and comprehension via our thematic curriculum.  Each class experience will build the child’s confidence in communicating in the target language and will develop their awareness of foreign cultures.  Previous exposure to the language is not required for participation; students of all levels are welcome!

French Language Enrichment - Learn Language Hoboken’s Enrichment Program is designed to teach language and culture focusing on the development of auditory and verbal skills in a fun, fast-paced environment by professional, native instructors.  Our teachers have been carefully selected for their ability to work with children. 

TUESDAY:
CHESS (Intermediate & Beginner):  Grades K-4th 3-4pm –Alpha Minds Academy– ($235), 10 students
It is a well-known fact that chess develops intelligence. And what is intelligence if not the ability to solve problems? In our chess classes, children learn to play the game and discover that the techniques used to analyze chess situations can also be used, sometimes quite creatively, to grapple with puzzling questions in school and real life. Step by step, children learn various strategical and tactical moves in chess, beginnings and endgames.  Studying games of world champions, as well as games of today's strongest grandmasters, is an indispensable part of our classes. Theoretical knowledge is supported with games in class. Children play the game in every class, against each other and the instructor. Our classes are taught by a professional chess coach. AlphaMinds Academy is a registered chess club with the United States Chess Federation.

WIZARDLY WONDERS-magic class: Grades K-4th   3-4pm -Hobby Quest ($200), 14 students
Discover the wondrous wizard in you by joining this hands on magic class! We will teach you everything you need to know to perform amazing tricks and illusions! Your audience will be flabbergasted as you read their minds, picking their choices right out of their heads with our Mind Reading and Mummy Mystery tricks. They won’t believe it when you can make a flower appear from your professional magic wand out of nowhere! You’ll even get to make objects float in midair! At the end of the session, your friends and family will be invited in to see you perform these amazing feats in a real magic show starring our new wizards! Join today and make all of your friends wonder, “how did they do that?!”.

Susan’s Fit Kids-Kids fitness training program: Grades K-2nd 3-4pm –– Susan Fitness ($160), 10 students, and OFFSITE- 207 Jefferson St
Physical activity is critical to our children’s health and well-being. Studies show that physical activity not only helps kids stay active and healthy, but it can enhance important skills like concentration and problem solving, which can improve academic performance. Kids just want to have fun and it is possible to show them how to enjoy exercise while improving their health and fitness.  A Fitness “ABCS” class will include the fundamentals of fitness as well as the following components: Agility, Balance, Coordination and Strength training drills. Introduction to the basic components of fitness—cardiovascular, endurance, and strength. Motor skills development and enhancement while incorporating fitness games. Students will be escorted to Susan’s Fit kids at dismissal by an aftercare instructor. Parents/Caretakers are responsible for picking up students at 207 Jefferson St at 4pm Sharp. Only students registered for HoLa aftercare will be escorted back to school after the enrichment class.       

WEDNESDAY: No class on 10/12

Math Venture:  – Grades K-4th- 3-4pm –-Math Wizard – ($215), 8 students http://www.mathwizard.net/hoboken.
Students will use critical thinking skills that require investigation, inquiry, and collaboration to solve math puzzles and games in a project based environment. All children will learn strengthen numerical skills as customized based on an initial placement test. They will also review and learn Core Curriculum identified grade appropriate concepts. Students will investigate, inquire, and collaborate to solve math puzzles and games in a project based environment. Learning will be based on experiments/activities and recording of findings in a log, learning of concepts based off the activity of day.

cOCINANDO CON MARGARITA! cOOKING en Español  with Margarita @ the little grocery: Grades 1st-4th3-4pm, ($160) 10 students
LET’S get in the kitchen and Discover the very best of latin cuisine with margarita and Neamet at the little grocery!   This hands-on cooking class will introduce our young chefs into the world of Latin cooking. Our classes will invite our young chefs to a different part of Latin countries through cuisine. Students will learn basic cooking skills and the joy of eating and cooking with fresh flavors and Spice! Please advise if your child has a food allergy.

 

Denim Dreams fashion Class: Grades 2nd – 4th 3-4pmMad Science - ($200), 14 students
Take your love of denim to the next level with Hobby Quest’s Denim Dreams! This session we are crazy about denim, and are creating really cool clothes and accessories out of the most versatile fabric out there! You’ll learn everything there is to know about creating your own denim outfit and accessories, like skirts, vests and even a trendy mini backpack! From designing and sketching to altering and decorating, you’ll be guided through the process step by step to create some incredible one of a kind pieces! Your outfits will be so cute that your friends and family will be invited in at the end of the session to see you model your designs in a runway show. No experience is necessary; you’ll learn all of the skills needed to create chic garments so sign up today! Design it! Create it! Keep it!

 

game design Class: Grades 2nd – 4th 3-4pmYoung Engineers - ($190), 14 students

Students will learn to program characters to move, converse, and respond to any situation. Students will create variables, create and call functions, use operators to respond to changes and experiment with programming to build creativity and confidence.

 

THURSDAY:

Arte En Español: Grades K- 4th– 3-4pm –– Srta. Gaxiola ($125), 12 students
Express, appreciate and enjoy discovering your creativity through various techniques in a series where you will work on a new project each week. Young artists will work with watercolors, oil pastels, puck tempera paints and markers. HoLa’s very own teacher will be leading this class. 

SEWING: Grades 1st-4th 3-4pm-($200) MAvery Designs, 8 students
Sew accessories, stuffed animals and clothes by hand, and by sewing machine (highly supervised). Students will learn to cut fabric from a pattern as well as how to properly thread a needle and a sewing machine. Each class is project-oriented and students will leave with finished projects. *New Projects this trimester*

System 3, Currents, Chemistry & forces: Grades 1st – 4th 3-4pmMad Science - ($190), 14 students
Children will play engineer, chemist and stunt pilot then investigate physics fundamentals and bring their scientific minds to basic magic tricks. Your junior Mad Scientists will be shocked by what they learn about electricity, blown away by their experiments with air pressure, and swept away by the excitement of working with waves!

Hip-Hop Dance class: Grades K-4th3-4pm –now with Saquan Ladson (Derrick’s brother) – ($160), 20 students
Hip Hop is an explosive, funky dance style that combines memory, coordination, rhythm games, and loads of energetic FUN! Derrick’s brother Saquan, an award-winning choreographer. Saquan studied theatre and dance at Centenary University. Saquan was on tour and was a performer with Disney/Walt Disney World. Saquan will choreograph routines and teach the fundamentals without sacrificing the joy of dance.

FRIDAY:

Bricks 4 Kidz @ HOLA: -Jurassic Land  Grades K-4th– 3-4pm ($200), 15 students
Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Put on your hiking boots and camouflage...you’re about to enter Jurassic Brick Land! Students will build a world that comes to life with gentle Brontosaurus, ferocious Velociraptor, terrifying T. Rex, and more. We’ll learn about, and build and construct amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period, as well as, other extinct, prehistoric animals that roamed the earth and swam the seas during that era and millions of years later. Show us your building skills using our specialized project kits! Come learn, build and play at Jurassic Brick Land class!

Extreme Flight-The Next Generation of Aviation Class: Grades K-4th   3-4pm -Hobby Quest ($200), 14 students 
Take your building and flying skills to the next level and join us for Hobby Quest’s Extreme Flight! This session we are going to build really cool planes that know what it means to be Extreme! Of course every pilot needs to start out with a little training, so first we’ll build the J3 Piper, a lightweight balsa wood glider used for training pilots! Next we’ll build the ultra-cool balsa wood Airhawk. The Airhawk was a fighter plane that was used during the Second World War. Some of the most extreme flying machines are the ones we see flying in space! The super cool glow in the dark UFO is going to magically fly being controlled just by the palm of your hand! Not only will it light up like a real spacecraft, but it will fly as high as 10ft! If that wasn’t extreme enough, you’ll also be well on your way to knowing everything there is to know about flight when we teach you how planes fly, and what each part of the airplane is for.

programming/scratch (Beginner): Grades 2nd-4th 3-4pm –Alpha Minds Academy– ($235), 12 students
Introduce your child to Programming through Scratch, a tool designed by MIT to teach coding to elementary and middle school students.  Scratch allows students to learn real programming concepts by creating applications and interactive adventures with stackable code blocks! Students will master the intuitive user interface of Scratch and learn the functions of the most important blocks, which beneath their friendly appearance represent important computer programming functions. This course relies on a series of fun-filled projects. For example, your student may use Scratch to animate a character, tell a story, write a song, or even design a simple video game.

salsa class En Español : Grades 1st-4th3-4pm –Srta. Sanchez – Salsa Dance ($125), 12 student 
HoLa’s very own teacher will be leading this class in Spanish! Salsa Dancing is a great way to introduce your child to the arts while helping them build self-confidence and social skills. Srta. Sanchez will create a structured environment for learning, while still keeping it fun for your young dancer! Students will learn the basic salsa steps and learn how to dance with a partner. Your child will learn the fundamental salsa moves including basic, cumbia, cross body lead and Right hand turn and learn to execute these moves and many more with precision, and performance quality!
